The path

Five levels. Most people never start level one.

Every big founder story starts small. Mow a lawn, edit a video, flip a jacket. The money matters less than what you learn about selling, pricing and keeping promises.

See the 30-day plan
  1. Earn your first £100

Pick a local service anyone can do: dog walking, car washing, tech help. Knock on 30 doors. Get paid this week.

  2. Reach £1,000

Turn one-off jobs into regulars. Ask for reviews and referrals. Raise your price once you're fully booked.

  3. Learn a skill that scales

Video editing, design, code, copywriting. Charge for your skill, not your hours of muscle.

  4. Build an asset

A product, a template, an audience or a small team. It earns when you're not working. Naval calls this leverage.

  5. Make money work for you

Invest a slice of everything. Money invested at 15 can grow to many times its size by 65.

Fastest to cash

Time from "I have an idea" to the first money in your hand, for a typical teen with no startup money. Local services win every time.

Three rules before you start

What the best founders agree on

Sell before you build

Get someone to say yes, or pay a deposit, before you spend money on stock, logos or a website. Y Combinator's whole advice fits in four words: make something people want.

Boring problems pay

Smelly trash cans, dirty driveways and confused grandparents with new phones. Nobody brags about them on TikTok, so there's less competition and customers pay quickly.

Keep a slice forever

Put aside part of every payment before you spend any. Saving is how a side hustle turns into freedom instead of just more stuff.

Why start now

Time is the one advantage you have over every adult.

£50 a month invested from age 15 versus from age 25, both until 65, at an assumed 7% a year. The ten-year head start costs £6,000 more in deposits and ends worth roughly twice as much. The maths is the same in any currency. Illustration only; real returns go up and down.

Under 18? Bring a grown-up in early.

Most payment apps and marketplaces need you to be 18, and some jobs have legal hour limits. A parent-run account and a quick chat keep you legal and safe.
